Arriving in Hiroshima, you might wonder, "Where should I go first?" or "What's the best way to get around?"
We've crafted the perfect itinerary for you to efficiently visit Hiroshima's two most iconic World Heritage sites—the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome, and Miyajima Island—all in one day. With this plan, even first-time visitors can travel with ease.
Morning: A Journey to Peace in the City Center

9:00 AM - Depart from Hiroshima Station From Hiroshima Station, the city's streetcars (Hiroshima Electric Railway) are the most convenient way to get around. Hop on a streetcar bound for the Peace Memorial Park.
9:30 AM - Visit Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome Standing at the entrance of the park, the Atomic Bomb Dome is a silent witness to a tragic history. Seeing it up close is a powerful experience that renews your commitment to peace.
Next, walk through the park to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. Here, you'll learn not only about the horror of the atomic bomb but also the stories of the people who worked tirelessly to rebuild the city. Visiting the museum will help you understand the profound meaning of the Peace Memorial Park.

Lunch: Savor Hiroshima's Famous Okonomiyaki
12:30 PM - Enjoy Okonomiyaki in the City Center After your visit to the museum, take the streetcar to the city center, an area known as Kamiya-cho or Hatchobori. This area is home to many famous okonomiyaki restaurants. Be sure to try Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, with its delicious layers of cabbage, noodles, and pork, all grilled on a hot plate.

Afternoon: Cross the Sea to the Mysterious Miyajima Island
2:30 PM - Head to Miyajimaguchi and take a ferry to Miyajima Once you’ve finished lunch, get back on the streetcar and head to Miyajimaguchi. From there, take a ferry to Miyajima Island. Both JR and Matsudai Kisen Ferry companies operate this route, and the ride takes about 10 minutes.
3:30 PM - Visit Itsukushima Shrine and the Great Torii Gate Upon arriving on Miyajima, make your way to Itsukushima Shrine. The shrine and the Great Torii Gate, which appear to float on the water, are breathtakingly beautiful. We recommend checking the tidal forecast in advance, as you can walk right up to the base of the gate at low tide.

5:00 PM - Stroll Through Miyajima's Streets After visiting the shrine, take your time to explore the Omotesando shopping street before your ferry departs. You can enjoy local snacks like momiji manju and oysters or look for souvenirs.

Evening: Enjoy Hiroshima's Nightlife and Dinner

6:30 PM - Return to Hiroshima City Take the ferry back to Miyajimaguchi and hop on the streetcar back to Hiroshima's city center.
7:30 PM - Dinner in Hiroshima City For dinner, you can enjoy a drink at a cozy bar in the Nagarekawa area or savor the fresh seafood of the Seto Inland Sea at a local restaurant.
